Seaside Tofu Shack wasn’t a particularly fancy place, but it had its charms, being a fun little beachside bar style shop specifically for those who appreciated tofu.. which did wonders for Al. And with their bag of assorted tofu boxes in the car, he would look at Viximon “which one first?”

Between the Samoan's words and Viximon's ferocious om-noms, Al almost didn't catch sight of the figure that came passing by. It was through the reflection of his side-view mirror; a woman with long, silver-white hair with a single patch of her bangs dyed red. Walking in high-heel sandals, she glided across the parking lot towards the tofu shack as she talked into her phone. It was impossible to tell with her sunglasses, but, Al could have sworn she was looking back at him as she curled her painted lips into a smile.

Al would fish a box of tofu free and laughed, playfully bopping his partner as she tried to pull the box back down into the pile of Noms.. and was about to dig in when he caught sight of the woman. At first he didn’t pay much mind, tourists came to Hilo all the time- especially those who wanted to experience the various national parks. But then he noticed that she seemed to be glancing back at his car and at the two of them.. which was a little odd. Even stranger was how she was dressed.. it wasn’t anything outlandish.. but was quite out of place on the beach.
“Huh.. that lady must have a pretty high heat tolerance.” Al pointed out to his bro-and-sex friend. “Isn’t it supposed to get to be like 85 degrees today?” He asked, munching on tofu.

The lady was ordering at the front of the shack now, phone in one hand. A *ping* from Ike's digivice interrupted Al's focus as the Samoan spoke up again. "'Kay, Vivi's out, but Eyesmon's gonna let us in the moment we head over."

"Sure," said Ike. "But you might wanna drive slow." The Samoan then pointed behind Alemana, directing the taller teen's attention to the bloated ball of fluff that used to be Vixi-Sugar. Indeed, the kit-cat sat atop a throne of empty boxes now, her face relaxed and at peace as her belly rose and fell with every breath.

“I don’t think I’ve ever really been to Vick’s school, save for a JV game back in 8th grade.” Al said as they drove, looking at Viximon in the rear view mirror. “You feeling okay?”

Vivi's apartment building wasn't much different from the one the group used for the clubhouse. Besides being closer to downtown, it had a great view of the beach, being just above the neighboring buildings the kept the lower levels in shadow. As promised, Eyesmon buzzed Al, Ike and Vixi in, leaving the apartment door unlocked for when they got upstairs. And, to no one's surprise, Al found his vision obstructed when a massive shadow slammed around his head and neck, cheering "ALY-POOOO!!"
"Hey!" said Viximon, the kit hanging from Al's arms. "Watch it! You almost hurt Al!"
Al could hear Ike say "Pagumon!" despite the walls of snake crushing against his ears. As Eyesmon loosened her grip, Al saw Pagu flying towards Ike before the Samoan snatched him out of the air. "Ready to roll?"
"You betcha, boss!"
"Awww!" said Eyesmon. "But you guys just GOT here!"

Al would laugh as they drove over… and he would pull into Vivi’s block, and would kill the car. Carrying Viximon in his arms, he would then flinch as his was grabbed by Eyesmon. “Ack.. hey Eyes!” He said as he would then looked at the others while getting hugged. A moment later he then would gently plop Viximon on Ike’s shoulder. “You guys mind waiting in the car for a sec? I gotta talk to Eyesmon for a bit about something.”

"Oh, you wanna bet?" asked Kale. "No way I'm backing outta that! What you got in mind, Sonson? Got a couple twenties in my wallet back at the car, if that's what you're after."

“Well, what do you two think we should bet, ‘girls’?” He asked, keeping up the charade.

The wrestler's smile faltered. "Girls?" he echoed.
Chet's girlfriend gave the ball-carrier a raised eyebrow, causing Chet to flinch, then look at Kale with eyes trembling in their sockets.
"You heard him," said Renee, stepping forward. "Our friend against your cash."
"Wait," said Ike. "Me?!"
"Hell yeah!" laughed Kale. "Whaddya say, hot stuff? A date with the captain of the wrestling team? Could totally forfeit the match if you wanna skip to the good part!"
"I'm gonna kill you for this," muttered Ike, his brow twitching as he stared at Al.

Al would look at Renee in shock, and would look at Ike with an apologetic expression on his face “Sorry” he mouthed before speaking up
“Deal. But you don’t do anything that she doesn’t agree to- alright?”
(“That’s pretty mean, throwing Ike under the bus like that. I think you gotta risk something too, Kitmon,”) Al said in a bit of a teasing mind tone.
“In fact, let’s make it more interesting. We win.. you guys take us out to that expensive Hibachi gril place down town. You win? You get a double date with Renee too!”

Renee paused, glancing back at Al. She gave a silent chuckle, shrugging as she scratched her forehead.
("I guess I got carried away,") she thought. ("That just means no slacking off, Kitmon.")
Kale's toothy grin was as wide as his face. "Oh man," he said. "You guys are just begging for it now! And yeah! I'll make sure you ladies feel right at home!"
"So, are we getting anything out of this?" asked Chet's girlfriend. "Or is this all just for Kale?"
"No skin off our backs if he wins or loses," said Chet himself.

(“Like I would back down from a challenge. Especially when my girl and my boy are on the line!”)
He would look at Chet and Chet’s girlfriend, thinking. “Well.. do you guys have any romantic places you like going?”

The two exchanged looks.
"There's a new place up in Wainaku we've been meaning to check out," said Chet. "Cafe right next to the Scenic Outlook Park, right Keke?"
"Hey yeah," said Keke. "Kalua Grill Cafe. Heard it's got good grinds."

“Tell you what, Y’all win.. and I’ll pay for your dinner.” He then gave Ike a hug “Let’s do this!”

With everyone now fully motivated - and on the line - the game was set between Team Sonson and Team Branson. The court took advantage of the rocks to form the goals. Keke - full name Kekepania - took goalie position on one side of beach, and Ike (plus Pagu) took it on the other. Unable to keep the ball from floating away on the waves, Alemana and Kale made the choice to put both their hands under the ball at the center of the court. Basketball player vs. wrestler, tall vs. broad, tamer vs. norm.
It's time to war.

And as they took position and held the ball in place, Al locked eyes with Kale. Everything was on the line, both his own pocket money and the potential embarrassment of both of his lovers. Feeling Kumon’s eyes on him, he took a deep breath and grinned.
“Okay, on three. One, two.. Three!”

In unison, the two jocks threw the ball skywards. Yet while Alemana's execution had been near flawless, the angle at which Kale had pushed upwards left a spin to the ball, setting it to land on Al's side of the court. Kale dove into the water after it, almost landing right on top of Al. The wrestler now had a lead on him, but his mistake came in thinking Renee couldn't reach the ball first. Like fighting a Mo'omon, the faux-human dodged Kale, winking at him as she fired the ball back at Al!
[Aight, describe how you get the first goal. I'll write up the next skill check from there. ;) ]

Al would juke and wade through the water as fast as he was able.. and once he was able to dodge around Chet he would set the ball up.. and wink at Keke as he spiked the ball past her with a mighty bap- scoring the first point!
“Good job Renee!”

The vulpine laughed. "Me? You're the one that shot the goal, hon!"
"Look alive!" said Kale. "We're playing best of three!"

He would beam at her, before laughing with her. “It’s a team effort!” He said, before turning back to Kale “Got it!”

Now wise to Kale, Al managed to divert the other jock's topspin trick. So doing, the tamer caused the ball to land on the opposing court, with Renee already swimming ahead of the landing. This time, Chet maneuvered fast enough to reach the ball before the vixen. He would have lost the ball there and then had he not confused Renee by tossing the ball towards Keke. Everyone winced as the ball slammed into the goalie's hand, yet Keke was stone-faced, and with a glint in her eye threw the ball straight at Kale who caught into midair. Again, the big teen near bulldozed over Al as he raced for the goal, but the moment the jock got close, he stopped mid toss. Al was close enough to see where is attention was at: the damn fool was staring at Ike's... well...
"Jesus those are some knockers," said Kale.
And the silent scream from Ike as the Samoan froze in place resonated across the entire beach, and into legend.

Al would bite back a curse as the ball was thrown back to Kale, and was knocked aside. Running through the water after him.. he would see what Kale was doing and would blink .. but then smack the ball from his hand and towards Renee. (“Get her, babe!”) he silently said, thankful that Kale was so easily distracted by Ike and “her” … assets

Eyes narrowing above a smile, Renee took inspiration from Al's trick earlier that day, and lifted her feet up in a skyward kick. The ball - on impact - then fired towards the enemy goal, near kissing the surface of the water as it shot past Keke and into the greenery beyond!
"What the hell?!" said Kale, his jaw dropping from the sight of it.
"Two points!" said Renee. "That's game set and match!"

Al would cheer as he saw her move, a grinned as she made the shot. “That’s my girl! Whet s great shot!” He said with a laugh, looking at their opponents. “That is how you play some goddamn water polo!” He said with a laugh.

Kale wadded over to his team. "Chet, what the hell man! I thought you were covering Renee!"
"I was!" said Chet. "Right up until it looked like you had this in the bag!"
The wrestler slammed a hand on the water as he backstroked, combing his fingers through his short cut hair.
"Don't forget your promise, Kale~" said Renee. "A deal's a deal, after all."
Cursing under his breath, Kale stood up as he faced Team Sonson. "It's in the car," he sighed, thumbing towards the shore. "Can somebody get the ball? I ain't paying for it if it gets lost."

Al would laugh, but he waded over to Kale, holding out his hand. “Hey, good game either way.” He said, a sportsman smile on his face.

Kale glanced down at the offered hand. Shrugging, he clasped it with his own, giving a firm and solid handshake. But before he let Alemana go, he stooped his head low and asked: "Hey, uh, don't think I caught your friend's name. Who is she?"

“Oh, uh..” he would look over at Ike, and then a smile crossed his lips.
“That’s Kaipo, she’s a sweetheart,” he said, loud enough to be heard

Even telepathically, Renee tried to stifle the silver notes of her laughter. As Al looked over his shoulder towards Ike, he saw the Samoan sinking beneath the waves. His pagu-breasts squirming as they sank along with him till only Ike's bandana remained above the surface.
Kale's smile returned. "Kaipo," he echoed. "Cute name."
As the wrestler waded back to shore, and both Chet and Keke went in search of the ball, Team Sonson regrouped around the now bubbling bandana in their midst.
"Never realized how long Ike could hold his breath for," mused Renee. "Or Pagumon for that matter."

Al would laugh with her.. waiting for the others to get to shore before helping Ike up “You gotta let Pagu breathe. Babe.”

A massive gasp escaped Ike's cleavage as Pagu broke character, the blue ball having turned a dull shade of purple.
"Why am I still alive?" droned Ike. "Lemme drown in peace."
"Get a grip, boss!" chided Pagumon. "What'd I say about divin', already?!"
If Ike was listening, it didn't show. The Samoan was too busy disassociating as he stared into the far distance like a man working overtime without a drop of coffee to show for it.

Al would stare at him with a perplexed expression “It’s kinda your fault, you’re adorable when your hair is down,” he said with a tease as he playfully splashed him.
“C’mon, look at this way- we get free lunch, and then we can start looking into that INAS stuff. Win-win!”

The platinum-blond sighed. "Yeah, you're right... but if Kale finds out I'm a dude, I'm fucked."
"Then he won't," said Pag. "Humans got twins, too, right? Just play it cool today, and if you see 'em again, say it wasn't you! Y'know, fake it till you make it, boss!"
Renee stroked her chin. "That's... actually not a bad idea," she said. "I doubt Pagumon will stay In-training long enough to play bra-stuffing again. Pretty devious~"

“And even if he does, I’ll just tell him that you’re my boyfriend, and if he has a problem with it he can take it up with me,” Al offered helpfully

Ike smiled. There was still a dullness to his eyes, but the smile gave him enough strength to look back at Al and nod.

Elsewhere on the Big Island, a silver-haired woman paced with a smile of her own. She breathed in the ocean air as a warm breeze found its way into the penthouse. The curtains around open windows danced with the wind and the light of the noonday sun.
"Dear-heart," said the woman into her earpiece. "While a cordially welcome any dialogue at this point, you know I don't work for free. It's simply bad business if I just give you what you want. And while I miss the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, I am currently on, shall we say, sabbatical? Yes... yes... oh don't be that way, darling. The Nightmarcher incidents on O'ahu and Maui are old news~! Your pet tamers knew what they were doing, and I gave them what they needed. Don't blame the seller when the merchandise is exactly as presented..." The woman's smile soured. Turning on her heel, she approached a laptop resting atop a kitchen bar of black granite. "Tread lightly, dear. The web is wonderful playground for finding people's dirty laundry."
Pictures blinked into existence across the screen. Images of teenagers and adults wandering Hilo. One in particular showed a dark-haired woman with a diploma in her hand, grinning to the camera as she stood beside a man in a white lab-coat.
"Now if you'll excuse me," said the silver-haired woman. "I'm having a friend over for lunch."

After finishing up at the beach - and washing up in the outdoor showers - the gang began driving after Kale's group as they went to the hibachi grill. To say Ike was a bundle of nerves on the way over would have been putting it lightly. Afraid of Kale looking seeing him through one of his mirrors, even on a busy street, Ike kept Pagumon stuffed inside his shirt-bra, fingers digging into the seat cushion. Renee raised an eyebrow as she looked out of her periphery.
("He really is stressing out,") she thought to Al. ("I even called shotgun so he'd get to sit in the back, well out of view.")

Al would glance in the rear view mirror at Ike, and would share a look with Renee before speaking up
“Bro, you look like you’re gonna pass out. Relax.. breathe. Everything is gonna be okay. We’ve got your back.”

Ike said nothing, his full attention square on his lap, though from Al and Renee's perspective, he appeared to be boring holes into his cleavage.
Renee sighed. "That rigid posture's only going to help give you away," she said. When Ike shot a glance at the vulpine, she continued. "It's the way you hunch up your shoulders, it's too butch."
"Sh-shut up," said Ike, looking away. But even Al could see the Samoan trying to straighten his posture. It was around that time the trio arrived at the Kazan Hibachi Grill, named for the volcano-like aesthetic of its titular grills, as well as the blending of Hawaiian and Japanese cultures. Kale and the others were already getting out of the wrestler's car as Alemana finished parking. But Al had found a shady spot near the front of the door just as the spot's previous owner drove off.

Al stifled a laugh, but he would then add “I think you are pretty dang cute, but she is right, you gotta relax those shoulders a bit hon.” He said as they pulled into the parking lot. Once he killed the car he would turn to look at Ike
“Remember to breathe, and just.. I dunno- be more smile-y?” He said, glancing at Renee. “What do you say?”

The vulpine smirked as she raised her brow at Alemana. "Al," she said, feigning disappointment. "You should never tell a girl to smile. That would make her dishonest, especially when she's feeling otherwise." Chuckling, she then gave her tamer a kiss on the cheek. In doing so, she drew Al's attention to her own cleavage, held up by a knot she'd tied underneath her twins using the sides of her shirt. This gave both Al and Ike a good view of her abs as well as accentuate the short shorts that clung to her ample hips. Renee then stepped up to Ike, whispering into his ear, just loud enough for Al and Pagumon to hear. "Leave everything to me and Al. Work the shy routine by hiding behind your hair. Mumble a little. Avoid eye contact for more than a second at a time. We'll translate for you when you need to order anything."
"You're way too into this," said Pagumon, peeking from cover.
"Mhmhm, not as much as you, Pag, I'm sure."

Al felt his cheeks redden as he heard her tone of voice, and surprisingly he would say nothing afterwards as she gave Ike her advice, and he couldn’t help but run his eyes along her outfit, and he would just whisper “Damn,” before he gave Ike a reassuring shoulder nudge. “We’ll steer ya straight, babe.” He said softly before sharing another look
(“You’re gonna be the death of me one day, baby girl.”)

("Only if you leave me hanging~") she thought, pinching the teen's rear as the trio (and one) made their way forward.
Inside the building, Renee took to interception, keeping Kale from getting close to Ike by stepping in between them, redirecting the wrestler's attention, and otherwise being centerstage. To the group's good fortune, they were among the first to arrive at the grill. In a row, they sat at the bar, with Ike taking the leftmost seat to avoid direct contact with Kale's group on the right. Despite this, Ike stuck to the ruse, no doubt fearing the chef would give him away if nothing else, even as said-chef gave tour-de-force with his working the grill.
"So Al," said Kale. "What'd you make of what's happening at school? Think it's for real?"

(“Oh hush.”)
And Al himself did a lot to help keep the groups attention away from Ike as well, keeping the others engaged in conversation while Renee worked her charm as usual. But when Kale asked about what happened at school, he would furrow his brow in thought before answering.
“Honestly? I have no idea, other than it’s apparently happened to several people from what cross talk has been saying.” Al said as he took a sip of his drink, watching the chef work with their food
“I will say that whatever it is, it can’t be good. But we just gotta have faith that someone will be able to figure it all out.”
That someone being Al and his friends, but he wasn’t going to say that out loud.

"Yeah," said Kale. "It'd be cool if it weren't for people getting sick. Dunno what's gonna happen to the sports teams, either. Been trying to reach the coach for the past couple days. Guess he's busy."

“Wait.. the coach hasn’t been answering for the past two days?” Al echoed, his eyes widening a little.

"Huh? Well, no. I tried like fifty times, and it always goes to voice mail."
("It's possible he's busy with the other teachers,") reasoned Renee in Al's mind. ("Want me to look into it?")

“Really? That’s weird.. not really like the coach.”
(“I hope so.. but let’s not take any chances. We aren’t that lucky usually..”)

Between contemplating and talking, Al noticed movement from Ike's side of the bar. From where Al was sitting, the Samoan looked like he was squirming in his seat, hugging himself. The sizzling from the open grill masked whatever Ike was saying, but Al could see him moving his lips. Renee moved to obstruct Al's view just as Kale looked in Ike's direction.
("Don't look now,") she thought. ("But Pagumon's getting restless. Even I'm starting to salivate, but an In-training digimon's got a lot less self-control.")
"Order up!" said the chef, passing the first dish over to Keke and Chet. Ike took the moment's distraction to punch his faux-breasts.

Al would take note of that, and once their food came to their side of the table he would take a cut of grilled meat and hold it up to her lips “Say ‘ahh’, baby.”

The vulpine obliged, opening her mouth to make a modest bite of the morsel. Al could almost imagine her real ears perking up as she tasted it, the savory juices, the tenderness. Through their link, he felt her satisfaction as if it were his own, watching her lick her lips clean before she offered a slice up to his mouth.

And that caused Al’s heart to tick a few beats faster, and he would take his bite next, smiling as he stared into her almost ice-blue eyes
(“Good, huh babe?”)

"Mmhmm~" Renee didn't look away. She sat there, staring deep into Alemana's eyes, her own like lurid halfmoons. The tamer felt her hand to his, how she wrapped her fingers between his.
("Have I ever told you... just how happy you make me?") she asked inside his mind.

(“A few times.. but I always love hearing you say it Renamon,”) and he offered her another piece

Again she would take a bite, and again she would savor the taste, watching Al as the tamer followed suit. Neither of them noticed Ike slipping food to Pagumon, nor the repressed screams whenever something hot and greasy hit the teen's bare skin. Not that anyone seemed to notice. For some reason, they were all busy staring at the TV monitor on the other side of the room...

Smiling, he would continue to feed his partner in this unbearably adorable fashion before he too would then notice that everyone was looking at the tv, so he would turn his attention to it as well
“Huh?”

The TV was mute - not that anyone could have heard anything over the grill, but the subtitles and the images shown were clear as day.

Al’s face became pale as he read that, and his eyes grew wide as saucers.

Looking over Renee's shoulder, Al could see Ike already texting like mad on his digivice. A moment later, and Al got a ping from his own.

The wrestler pulled his attention away from the news. "What, already?" asked the wrestler. "But we're not even halfway done!"
"Family emergency," said Renee as she pushed off her chair. "You can mail us the leftovers!"
Kale rose to his feet, but it was too late, Al, Ike, and Renee were already racing out the door.
"Hang on," said Ike as he got in the back. "I'm typing out the address."
"Pleh! I was sweatin' the bits in there," said Pagumon, the blue ball plopping out onto Ike's lap.
While that was happening, Renee slammed the door as she got in the front passenger seat. "What's the plan, Al?" she asked.

Al gave him an apologetic wave “Good game and everything!” He called back.
And once they were in the car, he would quite dangerously peel out and begin driving.
“Plan is to get inside and save Vivi, but we’re going to get Malie first.”

"Is there enough time?" asked Ike.
"We'll make time!" said Renee. "If we get stalled on the way, I can always hop it on foot for the school."
"Just what the heck's Eyes doin' in all this?" asked Pagumon.
"She's trying to stall for time or some shit!" said Ike, looking at his 'vice. He then pointed to the road. "Make a left after this one!"

Al would make the turn, and look at Renee grimly “This isn’t a coincidence.. this is the second time that people have gone unconscious, and both of them have been schools one of us has gone to. Whoever’s doing this..either there are a lot more people who’ve been to the digital world in our town than we thought, or this is targeted at us specifically.. maybe both-“ he looked at Ike “which way now?”

"Third on the right!"
"It's possible," said Renee. "We'll have a better picture once we're on site." The vulpine rolled down the window just as Al made the next turn. Alemana could hear the din of sirens somewhere up ahead. "Looks like we're on the right track," said Renee.

Al would make that turn as he gave Renee his digivice. “Call Malie, tell her we’re coming to get her and Kukuimon. Say whatever you’ve got to do we can get her here.”

The vulpine didn't need to be told twice, her ear already to the digivice as the group sped across town.
...
It had been chaos getting to Malie's alone. The longhaired tamer near throwing Kukuimon like a football into the car before charging in with a fire axe.
"What's with the axe?!" protested Ike.
"Don't ask stupid questions," said Malie. "FLOOR IT!!"
Seeing as Malie had the weapon in hand, Ike made no further attempts at an explanation. By the time the gang reached Lopaka High, though, the area had been cordoned off by yellow tape, with school buses struggling to push through the sudden traffic jam.
"This is ridiculous!" said Malie. "We gotta break through!"

Al didn’t question this, his mind was already set on rescuing Vivi.. face grim and full of determination
(“Renamon.. are you in position?”) he asked, as they let her out just before they picked up Malie- as discussed.

("Confirmed,") thought the vulpine. ("Judging from the map Eyes sent, the computer lab Vivi's in is windowless and on the second floor. No disturbances beyond what's happening outside the building. Everyone else's evacuated from what I can tell.")

(“Good. Do you have an entrance point for us?”)

("Eyes' handling the camera feed, but there's still too much activity around the main entrances. I can get people through a window on my back if I jump, but it'll have to be one at a time. You'll need to make it to the north-east part of the school. It's got the most cover.")

Al then turned to look at the others “Rena had a way for all of us to get inside.. but it’s up a window. Let’s go everyone, we gotta save Vivi!”

Lopaka High was a gated, four-story structure built into a hillside with clear view of the coast. With directions from both Renamon and Eyesmon, the group found a section of the blue-colored fence that was short enough to climb over. Trouble started when a random couple walked by, but with Ike on distraction duty, Al, Malie, and Kukuimon were able to climb over without drawing attention. Ike and Pagumon would later catch up just as the others made contact with Renamon near a gazebo. Sure enough, a window on the second floor was wide open, and with her signature efficiency, the vulpine was able to carry them up.
"Why did you bring a fire axe?" she asked, setting Malie and Kukuimon down.
"NO QUESTIONS!!" shouted the tamer, prompting Ike and Pag to shush in unison. But to no avail. "Which way's the lab?!"
"Fives rooms that way," said Rena pointing towards the door. The group had entered a physics classroom, judging by the equations on the whiteboard. Some of the students had left their bags and apparel, too. No doubt in a rush to evacuate.
"Where's Eyes?" asked Kukui, sniffing the air.
Renamon shook her head. "I've been wondering that myself. She's only responding via phone or the school's TV system. I checked the computer lab she mentioned, but the door won't budge."

Now in the school after slipping past the emts and the police, Al found himself tempted to shush Malie too, but thought better of it. This was how she dealt with crisis situations and he wasn’t going to try to curb that behavior- the years had shown him the futility of that endeavor. “Maybe it’s a good thing Malie brought her axe after all, in case we have to chop into the door.”
He then looked at Kukuimon “Are you feeling any better? We might need you in case things get hairy, okay lil Pua’a?” He asked before trying to text Eyes

"A little," said the green piglet, though his eyes looked just as tired as Al remembered them. "Mahalo for asking, cousin. I'll be ready. Promise."
A message from Eyes popped up on Al's screen. ++Way back's closed! System won't let us out! You gotta open it from your side!++

(“Something is still wrong with Kukui.. we gotta talk to him after this is over. He’s not okay.”)
“Alright, good to hear it.” And he would gently rub Kukuimon’s leafy ears before reading the message.
“Open it on her side? But if she could do that..” hr then shook his head, now wasn’t the time to question things.
“Let’s get this door open!” Al said.. and then he tried to shoulder check the door!

As the group hurried out of the classroom and into the hallway, Renamon pointed out the computer lab's door. When Al threw his weight into it, the teen felt the hardwood push back on impact.

With no small effort, Alemana slammed against the door not once but several times before his shoulder started to ache. With each bash, he'd managed to shake the door, but never enough to break it down. Everyone gasped when the door budged forward by an inch - revealing a white glow emanating from inside the room. Yet there was little time to celebrate, as a sudden wave of pressure pushed back on Al.
"The door!" said Renamon. She slammed her foot inside the gap, adding her own strength as she went shoulder-to-shoulder with Alemana. "Damn, that's a lot of force!"
Malie rushed in with the axe, slipping half of it in the gap to use as leverage. "Don't give up now!" she said. "PUSH!!"
Ike exchanged looks with Pagu and Kukui, the trio nodding as they went at the door, too. That is, Ike pushed the door, Pagu pushed Ike by the heel, and Kukui headbutted the space under Malie.
With so much weight now on the door, the cracking of wood under the surface broke through the grunts and fuming of the group... Then, in an instant, the resistance was gone, and the entire party fell forward and onto the floor.
"It's okay!" said Malie, the girl brandishing her weapon to the ceiling as she lay atop the others. "I got the axe!"

All would slam his shoulder over and over again, gritting his teeth as he felt the barest of give before something pushed back against it. “Dammit.. c’mon..!!” And then Renamon joined him, followed by Maile, Paguboss, and Kukuimon. Seeing everyone help him, he would give a small smile before then pushing forward with all his might along with everyone else.
“Just.. a little.. more-!” And he gave a Yelp of surprise as the door burst open and he fell forward.. along with everyone else atop of him.
“Hooray,” he said as he looked up, at the room around them.

Everyone fell quiet. The room they found beyond the doorway stretched far beyond anything a school could contain. Al was sure that the only thing that remained of the original computer lab was the doorway. For instead of computers set up in rows along the wall or in clusters, the group found glowing blue walls come alive with cyan circuitry. The grid-like floor was a floating platform railed with holographic rails that floated inches above the ground. Where Alemana touched it, a pixelated ripple of light would emerge then fade from view. Nodes of light, too, would follow the length of ephemeral wire overhead, all to the pitter-patter of digital white noise.
"Woah...!" said Kukuimon.
"It's almost like Kaumana Caves," said Renamon. Pushing herself up, she held Al's hand as she lifted him back onto his feet.

Al was quiet for a moment as he took the sight in, but would accept Renamon’s help to his feet. “All the more reason to be as careful as possible, okay?” He then would take a breath “Vivi, are you in here?!” He called out into the pixelated chamber.

No sooner had he asked the question than a holographic screen pop up in front of him.
"++Inquiry detected++" came a woman's voice, her words appearing on the screen. "++New User has entered the Node. Please identify++"
"The hell is that?" asked Ike. Suddenly, another screen appeared, this time in front of the Samoan.
"++Inquiry detected. New User has entered the Node. Please identify++"
Pagumon hopped into his tamer's head. "Pagumon!" he said.
The screen's borders glitched. "++New-n-n-n-new-neeeew User has entered the Node. Identification: Pagumon++"

“What the hell.. this didn’t happen last time.” Al said as he looked at Pagumon with a raised eyebrow “What are you doing, Pagumon?”

The blue ball shrugged as he ignored the holo-prompt. "I dunno," he said. "Thing asked for a name, so I gave 'em one."
"I wonder if it's somehow connected to it being a computer lab," said Renamon.
"How's that?" asked Ike.
"Back in the caves, there was little to no electronic activity. But we're in what used to be a school's computer lab. It's possible that whatever's going on is influencing the nature of the Network based on what data's available."
"Still not sure what your talking about."

“No.. I think I get what Renamon is saying. That Network thing is connected to our electronic infrastructure. Less technology? The Network is less defined. A highschool computer lab.. well it’s much more computer-y. Still doesn’t tell us where Vivi is though!”

Pagu, Rena, and Kukui's ears perked up. Turning, Renamon tapped Al on the arm without looking away from the 'sky'. A black swarm of insects was heading towards the group. The digimon took to combat stances, only to pause when the swarm coalesced into the shape of a large, thousand-eyed serpent.
"GUYS!!" cheered Eyesmon. "You made it! DON'T MOVE FROM THE DOOR!!"
"Why not?" asked Kukuimon. "Will it lock us in?"
"YES!! Dunno why--just wedge it!"
Nodding, Malie slammed the blade of the fire axe into the doorframe; and deep enough that it stuck in place, too.
"M-MALIE!!" said Kukui.
"Safety first!" said his tamer. "Now where's Vivi?!"
"++Inquiry approved++" came the disembodied woman's voice. A picture of Vivi popped up on the holo-screens, listing full name and profile. "++Vivian "Vivi" Kamaka, currently logged in at one hour, five minutes, and thirty-two seconds. Please follow the flashing lights to your destination++"
A trail of holographic arrow heads popped one by one in a row at each of the group's feet (or lack thereof), superimposing onto themselves as they led the way deeper into the Node.
"Pretty much what she said," coughed Eyesmon. "Vivi's just up ahead with the others!"

“Hey Eyesmon!” Al said as he then winced at the violent sound of the axe getting wedged in “Well, whatever works.” Gently taking hold of Renamon’s hand, he looked back to his friends “You heard em, let’s follow the lights and find- wait. Others?” Al asked, looking up at the dark dragon.
“There are other kids trapped in here?”

"No time!" said Eyes. Before the others knew it, they were sitting strapped into a dune-buggy as the dragon conjured it under them. "ZOOM!!" she cried, causing the vehicle to fire off like a rocket. The screams of terror from Ike, Pag, and Kukui were only matched by the screams of triumph from Malie.
Watching the scenery pass him by, Al saw other platforms above and below the one they were on, like 2D islands or even clouds floating in the digital space. It was almost enough to distract him when Eyes piloted the buggy over the ledge just to land on a neighboring platform. Again. And again. Renamon would prevent whiplash by holding her tamer's head in place when the vehicle drifted a full 360 to a sudden stop.
The vulpine scowled. ("Could she be a more reckless driver?") she thought, climbing out of the buggy first chance she got. As for the others, Al would find them in a daze, with Pagumon's head bobbling about from atop Ike's lap. Except for Malie. She was too busy snoring.
Beyond the vehicle, Al would see Eyesmon slithering through the air towards a dome of blue glass. But it was what was inside the dome that drew the tamer's full attention. There, surrounded by bodies, Vivi stood surrounded by holo-screens, her fingers tapping against them as her eyes darted back and forth between them.

“What do you— SHIT!” Al would then get thrown back into the seat as the buggy went zooming about.. and his hand would grip Renamon’s just a little tighter as they raced through this strange cyberspace. Once she spun to a stop, with Al’s face firmly held against his partners chest and shoulder.. he would give her a little hug before gingerly getting out of the vehicle. “Is everyone alright?” He asked, catching sight of the blue glass dome.
“Vivi!”
He would then hurry to the dome, tapping on it. “Vivi, what’s going on?”

The spectacled tamer jumped in place. "Al?" she said looking up from her work. "Hoh, you scared me. Listen, some of my classmates got trapped in here when the INAS blew up. We gotta get them out before anything notices us."
"Notices us?" echoed Renamon. "Are there digimon in here?"
"I-I don't know. One minute I'm coming back from the bathroom, an-and then my digivice's going berserk! I ran in here to check on people just for the way back to disappear!"
"It's okay, Vi!" said Eyesmon, the dragon rising up right beside her tamer. "See? I told you we could contact people through the web!"
"What about the door? Is it open? Please tell me you guys didn't get stuck in here, too!"

“This is definitely not a coincidence…” Alemana woukd say softly as he then would look at Vivi again “The door is still open, don’t worry. What do you need us to do, Vivi?” He asked, glancing at Renamon
(“Stay alert, baby girl.”)

("Always,") thought the fox.
"Hang on," said Vivi, tapping away at her screens. "And... done!" A warbled *ping* emitted overhead, followed by the dome fading out of existence. Five students lay unconscious at Vivian's feet as Eyesmon expanded beneath them and then lifted up into the air.
"Tell me again how you closed the Kaumana Node," said Vivi. She then stretched out her hands and clasped them together, causing the holo-screens to shrink into nothing. "We gotta shut this one down!"
"++Inquiry detected++"
A holographic pillar rose up from the ground between Al and Vivi, with Renamon putting herself between it and Al. Inside the pillar, a humanoid silhouette stood in place, fraying as if suffering from a bad connection.
"++Please refrain from hostile action towards system node. Any attempt to shutdown active system node still in use will result in severe bodily harm to all Users present++"

And when the silhouette appeared he paused “Uh.. who are you? And how do we shut this down nonviolently?” He asked .. though he felt silly

Vivian sighed. "I already tried asking," she said. "Maybe it's because it's brand new, but whatever's controlling this place isn't very intuitive."
Renamon tapped Al on the shoulder. Turning, the teen saw Ike approaching. "Have you tried hacking it?" asked the Samoan, hunched over with his arms hanging limp in front of him.
"Hell no," said Vivi. "Even with Eyes here, I don't feel safe messing with anything outside basic commands."

“Hmm.. I don’t know what to do.. oh I got it!”
He then turned his attention to Kukuimon “You could sing it to sleep!”

"Sing?" echoed Kukuimon, the piglet still in the buggy with Malie.
"I haven't got any better ideas," said Vivi. "Do you think it'd work better here, or have the same effect if we were closer to the exit? Or would it be safer try from the doorway?"
Renamon folded her arms. "The last time we sealed a node," she said. "Ike and Alemana's digivices started glowing as everything else went dark. If the same is true with this node, we'll be safe."
"I can do it," said Kukui. "Just tell me when and I'll sing."

“I dunno, but I think since it seems focused here.. let’s try a lullaby!”

Kukuimon glanced at Malie, the girl having woken up halfway through the plan. Taking a deep breath, the plant digimon nodded, clearing his throat as he raised his chin high.
"He nani lua 'ole

Mehana i ke anu ē~"
All around, the node's lighting began to flicker. Audio feeds blinked into existence on holo-screens as they orbited Kukui, shifting from blue to pallid green. The piglet watched it all, withering in place as he continued to sing.
"I-I can smile when it's raining
And t-touch the warmth of the sun
I hear children... laughing..."
"Kukui?" said Malie. The piglet was sweating through his mask. His breathing growing labored. His eyes darting up and around at everyone's faces. The walls of the node grew dark, the platforms shifting to green as they became the sole source of light.
"N-no!" said Kukui, trembling. "No no no!"
"++WARNING: File corruption detected. Initiating full system quarantine++"

Alright, it seemed like things were going well. Smiling, Al was about to praise Kukuimon when things started to fall apart.. “Wait.. what’s going wrong? Are you okay Kukui?!” He asked, stepping closer to Renamon.

The masked piglet shook his head over and over again as he repeated himself under his breath.
"Kukui!" said Malie, wrapping her arms tight around her partner. But Kukui resisted, struggling against her hold.
Suddenly, Alemana felt a sharp pain in the side of his head, only to see Renamon clasping a paw over the same area of her own.
"What is this feeling?" she asked. Al could sense a familiar nausea through his and Rena's mental link. He could see the others talking to him, but their words were muted, like listening to sound underwater.

Al would attempt to speak when he felt that pain and nausea Renamon was feeling, and he would rub at his temple. “What is going on..?” He asked through grit teeth.. eyes narrowed as he leaned against his partner.

("I... I'm not sure,") she thought, the vulpine leaning against Al just as much.

Through force of will and his own physical conditioning, Alemana was able to center himself. He did so by balling his fists, concentrating on the tension of muscles. From there he worked on the tempo of his breathing, filling his lungs to capacity before venting through his nose. The world began to come back into focus. He could hear the others, not just Renamon and himself. His stance grew steady, and as he glanced at his partner, he realized she was doing the exact same as he was.
"AL!" shot Ike. "We gotta go!"
Looking up, the taller teen saw what was going on. In the distance, thousands of holo-screens were popping into existence, like a wall of loose-fitting bricks that was growing closer and closer by the second.

Feeling his body stabilize.. he would snap his attention to what Ike was talking about
“Oh fuck.. move.. move!!” He said, turning to run

Nobody countered Al, every tamer and digimon not already aboard the buggy hopping in as the firewall got closer.
"Eyes!" said Vivi on her digivice. "We need a way back to the exit! How do you pilot this thing?!"
"++Like THIS!!++" said the dark dragon. And just as everyone was in the middle of getting their seatbelts strapped, the vehicle went into turbo drive. Al could feel his eyeballs sinking into the back of his head as his back slammed against his padded chair. A sudden weightlessness came over everyone as the buggy flew off the platform! "++Heads up!++" said Eyes over everyone's screaming. "++We got a digimon on your six!++"
On cue, red lasers shot past the buggy from behind, and as Al managed to turn around, he saw the source. Flying after them all was not one, but two mechanical figures. From a distance, they appeared to be humanoid, with elongated arms devoid of elbows, and short clawed feet. A red light glowed at the center of the body, but on the top of their heads was a blue dome similar to the one Vivian had been hiding inside.

Al would gasp as they got into the buggy and rocketed off. Once they got back on track with getting to the door, he would yell in surprise as lasers flew past them. “What?!” He cried in outrage, strapping his digivice to his hand to keep it from flying from his grip do he could scan the two attackers.

("Al,") she thought. ("Unless we do something, we're going to get shot out of the sky. What's the plan?")

“We need a distraction. Me and Kyubimon can hold those things off while you get those kids outta here and back to safety!”

"WHAT?!!" said everyone else in unison. All save for Renamon, who was punching the plan of her paw.
"Al, are you nuts?!" asked Ike.
Everyone flinched as another set of lasers flew overhead. One managed to graze the buggy, causing the vehicle to shake and rattle.

Grimacing, he would steel himself
“Look, we don’t have a lot of options here! Eyes has to focus on the buggy, Paguboss is still Paguboss, and something is messing with Kukuimon! We need Kyubimon…She’s our best shot at getting these guys outta here alive.. and that’s the goal!” He said, unbuckling his seatbelt.
“We’ll catch up, I promise! We just gotta hold them off long enough for you guys to have a straight shot to the door!” And he would nod at Renamon
“Renamon, do it!”

The vulpine nodded as Alemana's digivice began to glow. Rings of light surrounded and soon enveloped her, and with practiced poise, she declared: "Renamon, digivolve to--KYUBIMON!!"
[Aight, roll initiative!]

Al would leap on her back once she transformed, holding onto her holy ropes as she began charging forward. “If we can, let’s try to not destroy them, babe.”

Al would gently scratch her neck and then point at the two machine creatures “Light em up!” He shouted, which caused a vulpine smirk to cross her muzzle as her tails unfurled
”Wailing Inferno.” she said with a casual tone as nine green-pink, smiling fireballs launched forward before exploding into an emerald and cherry blossom colored wave of flame.

Next, she juked around the two robots and wreathed herself and Al in fire. ”Foxfire Slipstream!” as she rocketed forward, a blazing stream of fire blazing behind her:

The Mekanorimon altered course as the nine-tails fired back at them. Multi-colored flame licked at their armor clinging to them as they continued to fly. Yet only one managed to dodge Kyubimon's follow-up attack, its thrusters boosting it upwards while its neighbor was struck at an angle. Much like the top spin from Kale's water polo, Al and Kyubimon sent the unlucky mech whirling off balance. This close to it, Al could see a lone, organic eye peeking through the digimon's metal plates, rolling in its socket as the Mek attempt to steady its flight pattern.
Now under attack, the two Mekanorimon reassessed threat levels. Though they were still flying towards the buggy, their organic eyes glowed red as they turned to face Al and Kyubimon. Al was the first to notice red dots jittering in place on both him and Kyubimon.

Al’s felt his stomach rise and plummet several times as Kyubimon gracefully dodged and jumped around the lasers.. miraculously none of them so much as singing her fur - though a few came close. This caused Alemana to get a swell in confidence.
“Alright, hit em again! We gotta buy everyone more time!”
”Wailing Inferno!” sending another torrent towards the pair!

With another direct hit from the ninetails' conflagration, the first of the Mekanorimon wavered in the air before losing altitude. Unable to remain airborne, the machine crash-landed on the platform below. As for its twin, it rose higher into the air. Yet even far below, Al could see the glint of red in the digimon's eye, now coupled with a brightening glow from the machine red core.

Mekanorimon locked on target. Without a word, twin beams of crimson light fired off from eye and core, blasting Kyubimon and Al. The ninetails was just fast enough to leap at an angle, taking the brunt of the hit and sparing Alemana!

Al would gasp as Kyubimon took the hit in his stead, and he would pat her neck “Are you alright?” He asked, before glaring dork at the robot.
Kyubimon’s nod was all he needed to see as she flung another barrage of fireballs at the machine. ”Wailing Inferno!”

Vengeful flame struck true as the remaining Mekanorimon failed to evade. The faint noise of onboard alarms rang out all the way down to the platform below, where it crashed in a heap.
"Hmph," said the great fox. "Alive, but out of commission. Just like we planned it."

And he would then gentle lift her head so he could kiss the tip of her nose as he then settled back down on her back.
“Let’s catch back up with the others.”

Not a moment too soon after Al spoke did he and Kyubimon notice the firewall closing in behind them. The holo-screens had shifted from featureless, colored panels to stripes of yellow and black surrounding the words: ++WARNING: Lock Down!!++
"That's our cue!" said the ninetails, and with a powerful lunge, she dashed towards the exit. The pair could still see the buggy in the distance, a black dot screaming towards the light of the doorway. Faster than any horse born of Earth, Kyubimon raced onwards, leaping from platform to platform without losing momentum. Every step she made, the ground rippled with pixelated light in her wake. When Al dared to look back, he saw the last remnant of the Mekanorimon disappear as they were engulfed by the oncoming firewall. Suddenly, the platforms began to fall out of alignment, as if whatever held them up was losing its power. Like hopping long stones across a river, Kyubimon stayed her course. She and Al could see the others waving them over from the doorway, even as the buggy fell into the abyss.
As the last of the platforms fell, Kyubimon huffed, the great fox crouching low the ground before vaulting across the gap! The firewall mere inches from her ninetails! Vivi and Eyes pulled the others out of the way, but Al could hear them calling out to him and Kyubi. It was gonna be tight. They were threading the needle! At will, the great fox devolved back into Renamon, Al's arms wrapped around her neck as she tumbled through the exit! Rather than rolling onto her tamer though, the vulpine had managed to land the teen in her arms just as she hit her back against the lockers across from the doorway!
"Guys!" said Ike, the Samoan rushing to Al and Renamon's side.

Al felt his stomach drop as he saw that message, and he would hold onto her ropes for dear life as she raced off towards the exit. “You got this, you got this, you got this, you got this!” Came words of encouragement, though they sounded more like a mantra as Alemana held onto those sacred ropes with a grip that almost turned his dark knuckles bone white. As they drew closer and closer, his words became more frantic, but also.. ecstatic? As if this race against death was almost exciting in a way.
“Push through, you can do it—!”
And then she leapt and devolved back into Renamon, and he would tighten his grip around her.. and they came to a sudden violent stop that jarred his teeth. Opening his eyes, he would find his face buried in Renamon’s ruff, and he would look up at her. “Are you okay?” He asked, before looking at Ike. At first he was quiet.. but then a look of jubilant triumph crossed his features as he then pulled the blonde in for a hug, laughing.

"I was about to ask you the same thing," mused the vulpine. And as Alemana embraced her and Ike, Renamon returned the favor before stealing a kiss from her tamer.
But the moment would prove short-lived. Just as the firewall was seconds away from the doorway, a *VRR-oooom!* filled the air, all color washing out of the holoscreens as they froze in place. In that moment, each of the gang's digivices began to glow. Digicode began to pour onto their screens. In a reenactment of Kaumana Cave's node, the text, bit by bit, became legible English.

In unison, the digivices were surrounded by holographic rings. Red for Al, yellow for Ike, blue for Vivi, and ashen grey for Malie. A distant, shrill note then filled the hallway, emanating from the computer lab's doorway. The scene beyond started to shrink. Not just the firewall, but the entire node, leaving behind a black and endless void. Holographic grid lines surrounded the image as it became no larger than a tennis ball, glowing with light, till rings like the ones around the digivices centered themselves around it.

Seconds later, the image faded, leaving behind the computer lab as it had once been. As if nothing had happened.
"We... we did it!" said Vivi. "We sealed the breach!"

Al would hug both of them tightly before returning the kiss. “How is everyone we rescued?” He asked, before looking down at his Digivice in surprise as it began creating the Access Node and locking the strange not-space of the Network breach away. “That’s pretty much what happened in the cave! Still don’t know how it worked.. though it said something about new software…” he then looked at his friends “But we have a new problem.. me, Ike, and Malie don’t go to school here.. whet are we gonna do with these kids? Without just walking up to the cops and EMTs..”

"I'll take care of it," said Renamon. "I can disguise myself and lead the EMTs here after everyone's out of the building."
"Ugh," said Pagumon. "You're gonna jump us out the window again."
Vivi looked at the unconscious teens, shaking her head. "I'll stay with Renamon," she said. "Eyes can help get the rest of the team out faster."
"She's right you know," said Eyesmon. The smirk on her face laxed when Vivi wrapped her arms around the dragon.
"Thanks guys. I... I dunno what we'd have done without you."

“Sounds like a plan, should work.” Al said as he then smiled and gave Vivian a hug “You would’ve found a way to save everyone. But like what happened today, we’ll always be here to have your back!” He said as he then looked at Malie and Kukuimon
“We should get back to your place, regroup there, Lord Bucketmon.”

"Right!" said Malie as she nodded her head. Yet even before the group followed Eyesmon out, Kukuimon was silent. Over Malie's shoulder, he watched as Renamon got into character and followed Vivi down a different path. His nerves must have been acting up again, for he could have sworn he saw two Renamon.
Exhaustion pulled at the piglet's eyes, and with it, the oblivion of sleep.
