The illusion that hid Renamon fell away as she turned the boy around, near squeezing the air from him as she held him tight.

"There's nothing to forgive," she said aloud. "You are my tamer, Alemana. I promised I would protect you. Had I taken the danger more seriously, had I been more careful, you wouldn't have gotten hurt!"

“We.. we’re partners.. we protect each other right? You did what you could.. and to me that is all I can ever.. ask.. “ and he would return the hug.

A few moments later, however, he was doing his best Palmon impression as she squeezed the air out of his lungs.

“Air..! Air…!”

Pausing, Renamon chuckled as she eased her grip. "Sorry," she said, clearing her throat. "I don't usually get so carried away."

Gasping.. Alemana would squeeze her back.. and he would look up at her

“It’s.. okay.” And he would lean up to  boop her nose with the “filter” on his mask- a very obvious parody of a kiss to the nose.

“I love you, Renamon.”

The fox stared back at the boy. Then she relaxed, a wiry smile on her face.

"I... love you too, Alemana," she said, bouncing a paw off where the tamer's nose would have been. "From now on, I'll do the fighting for the both of us."

“I’ll try not to break any more jaws .. no promises though..” He laughed.. and then let go.

“I should go apologize to Ike and Gazimon.”

"We'll do it together," chuckled Renamon. "Within reason."

But such an olive-branch would have to wait, for as the pair climbed out of the lower levels of the ferry, they caught a glimpse of what was awaiting them down the river. There, in the distance, buildings rose over the forest like pillars of glass and concrete, shining in the light of the noonday sun. Cipher Bay, at long last.

Between the upper and main deck of the Simon, Gazimon hung his head and arms over the balcony rails. His ears hung low, his eyes beholding the distant skyline without the same glimmer shared by the others of the group. A long sigh escaped his lips. His thoughts refused to leave him alone.

You're going to get them killed.

Quit lying to yourself.

You've cheated him and everyone around you.

He's not your tamer.

You're a faker.
