Moses Dunsirn

Background:

The Boston Dunsirns had for more than a century held a place firmly at the edge of the city's wealthy elite. Though well regarded in the circles of business and academia, whispers of tragedy and dark deeds followed the family out of their native Scotland and were still talked about in hushed tones among the other prominent families of Boston. It seemed that Moses Dunsirn was destined to add to the macabre rumors of his lineage...

Born the second of four children to Seamus and Agatha Dunsirn, Moses was possessed of a quick tongue and strong will that often set him at odds with his elders and peers from an early age. Frequently clashing with his older brother Wallace, to whom he was always compared and found wanting, Moses realized at an early age that traditional means to stand out among the family were closed to him. Much of his childhood was spent in Wallace's shadow, seeking a way out while sheltering his younger brother and sister, Abner and Amelia, from the elder brother's torments. A few years at college made it plain that Moses, while not unintelligent, excelled more on the debate floor- and boxing ring. He was eventually forced to leave University after one too many incidents of turning one to the other.

Moses gathered a reputation for consorting with some of the less savory (and lower class) citizens of Boston, occasionally to be found organizing (and even participating in) underground boxing competitions. Not long afterwards, his younger brother Abner approached Moses with a proposal. Their father had recently acquired an import/export concern and Abner was approached to manage it. With Prohibition in full swing, Abner had received more than a few requests to acquire contraband and thought that Moses may have connections that would allow them to meet the more discreet needs of select clientèle. Moses partnered with Abner and they turned a significant profit, moving legitimate goods out the front- and just about anything else out the back. Word soon spread among those in the know that if you needed something into or out of Boston, you went to A&M Dunsirn Shipping Co.

One frequent yet mysterious client, known to the brothers simply as A. Giovanni, enlisted their services in acquiring an object of interest recently shipped from an excavation in Constantinople. The shipment arrived uneventfully enough, and all seemed to be going well, until the night Moses was to deliver the artifact to their client. The moment he left the warehouse, he was set upon by a group of armed foreigners bent on taking the artifact by any means. After a harrowing chase and running brawl through the back alleys and side streets of South Boston, Moses managed to drive off the last two of his attackers, but not before suffering a wound from a wickedly curved dagger wielded by one of the assailants who was muttering in a strange tongue all the while.

Looks & Personality:

Moses is best described as striking, rather than attractive. He is physically fit and carries himself with an almost arrogant ease and confidence with stern blue eyes and dark brown hair. Its obvious to any who know what to look for that his nose has been broken and set at least once, and his hands show some scarring from bare-knuckle bouts. He dresses in well made clothing favoring darker greys, blues, and greens that is acceptable in the higher rungs of society, if not exactly at the height of current fashion. Moses speaks softly, intently, and to-the-point with a voice that practically drips self-assurance and the faintest hint of "...or else" to any requests.
